Abstract

Education is considered a key to success and every sort of development is directly
related to it. Social, economic, political and religious development is also related to
education. However, generally, it remained a neglected sector in Pakistan especially in
the backward and far flung areas of Pakistan mainly due to lack of adequate resources
and poor economy. The Earthquake of 2005 destroyed the infrastructure of all kinds
especially educational facilities such as schools and colleges in Hazara Division. In the
reconstruction and rehabilitation process non-governmental organizations (NGOSs),
besides other actors played highly constructive role especially in the educational
sector. Primary aim of this paper is to scrutinize and analyze the role of the selected
NGOs in promotion of education in the post-earthquake era in Hazara division. The
research is qualitative for which primary data has been collected from various sources,
mainly the reports of the concerned NGOs. The study reveals that NGOs rendered
valuable services in the reconstruction process and promotion of education in the
earthquake affected areas of Hazara Division.
