The Level of Instrumental Motivation in Learning English as a Second Language at University Level
Abstract
The main purpose of the research study is to understand the level of instrumental
motivation among English language learners as a second language at university
level. The theoretical framework employed for this study is based on Dornyei and
Otto’s (2005) Model of L2 Motivation. Quantitative method has been used to
address the research objectives. Data has been collected through a questionnaire
adopted from Wimolmas (2012) about the main role of instrumental motivation
in learning English. The data has been analyzed by using SSPS. The findings
revealed that the students’ level of instrumental motivation with regard to
learning English as a second language was higher. Keeping in view the findings of
the present study, research of the kind in future can address other types of
motivation and enhance the significance of learners’ desired modes of
instructional designs within a pedagogical context.
